Denver’s Ceremonial Abyss inhabits his own space in the techno landscape, a space that blurs the boundaries of what that classification can possibly mean. It’s not just the improvised, analog nature of his art, nor the pressure cooker intensity he conjures – it’s the way he glues it all together. It’s that kind of vital meditative quality, born in noise, that brings him to playing alongside acts like Wolves in the Throne Room, and at bacchanals like Katabatik’s Summer Kampout in Northern California.

Nuit consists of two slabs of molten acid, long-form pieces that offer a glimpse into Ceremonial Abyss’ volcanic world of improvised techno. Each is a lesson in texture, his lo-fi compounding of all the instruments and machines into a single engine of invocation. ‘Ritual I’ draws you deep into its hypnotic world with tidal pads, swelling languidly under a blistering river of 303 fury. ‘Ritual II’ is perhaps even more meditative - the sharp-edged sea of distortion bathing everything in a transcendental haze.
